WOW wow
Everyone accomplished our goal! All parts have been laminated. Today is another VERY busy day. Let’s see what we have to do…
plane our seat blanks in the 15” planer
Draw our circles and lay out equilateral triangles to locate our leg holes. It’s important to try to keep our seat size uniform. This will help us with the cross braces!
Cut out our circle seats and use the power sanders to sand to our circle line. Use a block of wood and sand paper to bevel the top and bottom edge or your seat [beveling your seat and legs can happen later, even at home too]
Drill our leg holes
Mill our legs to hexagon shapes
Turn our leg top tenons to fit the leg holes in the seat bottom
Dry fit our milking stool!!!!
Sand bottom of the legs to a soft bevel.
Drill holes in our legs for our cross braces
Mill our cross braces. You can determine the length of the cross braces by taking the distance between the legs and adding the depth of each hole. A shorter cross brace is OK as long as it reached inside and has enough surface area for glue. Too big will cause your legs to splay.
Use the GIANT pencil sharpener, or the 1/2 dowel and tenon cutter to complete your cross braces. Check the fit by assembling your stool and using a square against the seat and the legs.
Once all is well, sand sand sand but take care not to remove your tenon shoulders. I use tape to avoid that.
Add a little glue to the leg holes, and the tenon tops and assemble.
Find something heavy to put on top of your stool for 15 minutes or so.
I’ll discuss finishing options and we’ll clean up!
10 AM - 12:15
Today we will divide and conquer. I will demonstrate steps 1 through 5, and then we will work to get all that done by lunch.
12:15 - 1PM
During lunch I will set up our turning jig on the table saw. I will be in the woodshop so if you wish you can keep working.
1PM - 4-or-5pm
After lunch I will demonstrate steps 6 to 11. We will work to get all that done by 3:30. Glue up will be last followed by clean up and a discussion about finishing options.
